FILM GRIDS

Color prints that are physical embodiments of select experimental films by King, where the experience of a time-based piece is re-contextualized into a two-dimensional image. The images are created by a process-intensive technique, where still frames are output from each respective film (indicated in the title), and arranged in chronological order in a 2D print application. For example, 'Approach' represents every 10th frame of the original video by the same name. Another example: if one were to take King's film Duomo Frame by Frame – which was originally shot on Super 8 movie film – and hold the strip of celluloid film, the 'print' here represents the film as having been cut into strips of equal length, and placed side by side.
